Zach's Baseball Season

Zach is on the 13 year olds in the Babe Ruth Division. He is playing with quite a few friends that he meet playing baseball. There are a couple of boys that are on the team that have never played so that has been somewhat of a challenge for Zach to try and find some patience with those players. They have a fairly good team and have been playing some area town teams. Zach has been pitcher, catcher or shortstop and loves those postioins. He has been hitting good, 1 homerun and his favorite is stealing bases. What would are summer be without baseball--we all love it.

Tyler's 12 -- June 18!

Tyler's 12 or pre-teen as he likes to put it. We didn't do too much--at night we got Wendy's per Tyler's request and went and ate it while watching Ben and Samantha play, they were both playing at Veteran's. We then went to Gowens and watched Zach. Steve and Tanya were passing thru on their way to Iowa, so we were able to spend a little time with them. Tyler received quite a bit of birthday money, which he is saving and from mom and dad he got a new swimsuit and a blanket that I made. He wasn't too thrilled about the blanket(as his dad predicted), but it's one of those practical gifts he will use often and come to love.

Soccer--Not Baseball!

Tyler wanted to try soccer this summer and not baseball. He played in the Homewood-Flossmoor League with a couple of kids from school--a coed team. They practiced one day a week and played on Saturdays. They had a good team--one tie and didn't lose any. Tyler usually played midfielder--he had three goals for the season. He loved playing, but did miss baseball. He wants to play soccer in the fall again and is hoping his brother will join him.

No More Pipes--Finally!

Two and 1/2 more days of school, we were on countdown. Tyler and Jaedyn were going to go with Grandma Bleyenburg to Iowa to babysit the Bousema kids while Joel and Amy enjoyed some time away and take in some golf. They left right after school on Thursday--they made it there safe and sound, but did travel thru some bad weather. I had been telling Abby that before we go to the pool that we had to get rid of the pipes--so Monday morning we gathered them together and put them in a bag to give to the babies at Church(not really, but Abby thought it was a good idea). She was good most of the day till bedtime, but was tired and fell asleep pretty quick. The next morning--can you say PIPE WITHDRAWAL!! She woke up crying for that thing so bad--I was firm and said no and just had to let her cry, well she went downstairs and found the baby pipes(used for her dolls) and brought it to me and said "mom, I just need one suck" I didn't know I could laugh and be sad at the same time. I was firm once again and just tried to distract her with different things throughout the day--it worked till bedtime, sad again-tired again. The rest of the week went great and she has not asked for it since. She thinks she is big stuff--she has a brother and sister who still suck their thumbs and needs to remind them every so often--needless to say that is why we pushed the pipe on her and wanted nothing to do with the thumb. Great Job Abby!!!

Memorial Day

We went to the parade in South Holland--Zach had to walk in it for Babe Ruth Baseball. It was a hot day, but it didn't stop the kids from running to get all that good parade candy! After the parade some of us stayed at Veterans Park for Ben's game and the rest of us went to Grandpa and Grandma Bleyenburg to hang out by the pool--the water was cold, but the kids were brave and went in. We grilled and early dinner and just enjoyed being outside with family.

Memorial Day Weekend

Saturday afternoon and evening at Munster Park with the Zandstra's. It was beautiful outside and we had a good time playing at the park, playing a game of wiffle ball--the boys vs the girls and the parents, playing bad minton and grilling dinner. It did get a little chilly, but if we sat in the sun it was nice.

I know--It's been awhile, again!

My next few updates I am going to be catching up on what we have been doing this busy summer! We are officially halfway thru summer as Zach was counting the weeks till school!
